The New Zealand government plans to set up a model dairy farm in Burma, in order to support the country’s efforts to become more self-sufficient.
The farm will be built with an investment of NZ$6m ($4.89m), over a period of five years. The herd on the new dairy farm is likely to be shipped from New Zealand. Currently, Burma imports most of its agricultural products, especially dairy from New Zealand.
Meanwhile, New Zealand multinational dairy firm Fonterra has appointed a country manager for Burma, in order to strengthen its presence in the country.
The new country manager, Prashant Pradhan, will be responsible for accelerating growth, identifying new opportunities, while allowing the company to better understand the opportunities in nutrition dairy, according to Fonterra.
Currently, Fonterra sells milk, cheeses, creams and butter to bakeries, restaurants, and hotels in Burma.
