Thailand has signed a rice deal with China, a move which will strengthen the trade between the two countries. The deal will enable Thailand to sell rice to China, allowing it to offload the surplus rice in the country.

As per the deal, the Chinese government will help the private players in the country to strengthen rice trading with Thailand. While China can import rice if it is required, it did not agree on any actual purchase quantity.

After the signing of the deal, the Chinese private sector purchased 260,000 tons of rice valued at THB7bn ($228m) from Thailand.

Thailand has been struggling to export its surplus rice, and the government has been criticized for policies that have affected the domestic market and Thai trading.
