On The Menu, a line of dietitian-approved, nutritious frozen main courses and desserts developed especially for seniors that debuted last March, has now gone national at independent retailers, the Winchester, Hampshire-based company has announced.
The company said that its meals are the first to have been developed with industry experts specifically to meet the needs of older people. They are currently available from wholesalers Hunts Food Service, Eden Farm, Hulleys and Consort Frozen Foods.
The hand-prepared meals take into consideration guidelines set out by the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research, provide one of the five-a-day vegetables, are high in protein and low in fat, and free fof MSG, GMO ingredients and typical irritants for those with digestive system disorders or other sensitivities such as colitis.
"We intend to refresh the range throughout the year to offer variety to our customers," the company said. "We've worked hard to ensure that our meals meet published guidelines and have removed ingredients that can cause sensitivity in those suffering from digestive conditions."
With the decommissioning of the UK meals on wheels program, expensive home delivery services and four million people living at home aged over 75, on the Menu offers independent retailers a chance to engage deeper with their local community, generate healthy sales and provide a service for more senior customers.
