FRoSTA, Bremerhaven, Germany, has been awarded the German Sustainability Prize 2012 for its "systematic conversion from a conventional to a sustainable brand."
The prize is awarded annually by the German Sustainability Day Foundation in conjunction with the national government. The brand manager of the Bremerhaven frozen food company, Hinnerk Ehlers, accepted the prize at a Düsseldorf ceremony from Johannes Remmler, environmental minister of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
FRoSTA has been removing all additives from its products and labeling their ingredients since 2003. "We are very pleased with this prize," said Ehlers, "because it honors in a very special way our efforts for natural, honest food." This, however, is not enough, he said, adding that the company is now working on an "even more consumer-friendly solution. The ingredients," he continued, "should really be called up even at the supermarket."
