According to the distillery, the old still could produce only one 53gal barrel or 400 bottles of whiskey per day, whereas the new German-made still can produce three to four barrels of whiskey per day. The company has dismantled and sold the old still.
The distillery will use the new still to produce its premium Troy & Sons moonshine whiskey. It is currently selling its products to regions like Carolinas, Tennessee and Georgia.
The distillery further plans to introduce the brand to Texas by March 2013 at the South by Southwest festival and conference.
Ashville Distilling co-founder Charlie Ball was quoted by Citizen-times.com as saying that the company also plans to roll out its products to additional states in the near future.
Due to the strict laws enforced by local authorities, the distillery cannot sell its products from its premises, but only through state liquor stores.
