A report from a key Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification body has cleared the way for a Russian pollock fishery to receive council certification.
The report, released this week by the MSC, cited the independent survey by Intertek Moody Marine of the Russian Sea of Okhotsk Mid-water Trawl Pollock fishery. Positive remarks on such a survey are a requirement for MSC certification.
“The determination reached by the certification body is that Russian Sea of Okhotsk Mid-water Trawl Pollock fishery should be certified according to the MSC principles and criteria,” the Moody Marine report read.
The report noted that the fishery has not received MSC certification yet. Right now, there is a 15-day working period for those who wish to protest in writing, according to the grounds for objection listed on MSC’s website.
Anyone who wishes to object should address protests to the independent adjudicator with a copy to the MSC Chief Executive by 12 February 2013.
