Butter, cheese, fruit, vegetable, poultry and total red meat stocks on Jan. 31, 2013, were higher than year-earlier levels, but egg stocks were lower, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its latest Cold Storage report.
Frozen turkey stocks totaled 361,842,000 lbs, up 22% from both December 2012 and January 2012, the U.S.D.A. said. Total chicken stocks were 657,676,000 lbs, down 3% from December but up 8% from January 2012. Total frozen poultry stocks were 1,020,962,000 lbs, up 5% from December and up 12% from January 2012.
Natural cheese stocks on Jan. 31 were 1,032,265,000 lbs, up 1% from both December 2012 and January 2012. Butter stocks totaled 206,612,000 lbs, up 35% from December and up 21% from January 2012, the U.S.D.A. said.
Frozen red meat supplies totaled 1,112,967,000 lbs, up 7% from December and up 2% from January 2012. Frozen pork stocks were 605,266,000 lbs, up 10% from December and up 3% from January 2012. Beef stocks in freezers totaled 484,003,000 lbs, up 4% from December but down slightly from 485,059,000 lbs in January 2012.
Total frozen egg stocks on Jan. 31 were 29,713,000 lbs, up 9% from December but down 21% from January 2012. Stocks of egg whites were 3,225,000 lbs, up 19% from December but down 23% from January 2012. Frozen egg yolk stocks were 2,473,000 lbs, up 16% from December and up 13% from January 2012. Whole and mixed egg stocks were 8,272,000 lbs, up 1% from December but down 27% from January 2012. Unclassified egg stocks were 15,743,000 lbs, up 10% from December but down 20% from January 2012.
Stocks of frozen orange juice concentrate were 781,535,000 lbs, up 12% from December and up 10% from January 2012. Stocks of all types of frozen fruit on Jan. 31 were 1,124,611,000 lbs, down 10% from December but up 4% from January 2012.
Stocks of frozen french fries were 957,918,000 lbs, up 6% from December and up 11% from January 2012. Total vegetable stocks (excluding potatoes) on Jan. 31 were 2,205,756,000 lbs, down 7% from December but up 4% from January 2012, the U.S.D.A. said.
