Core Tip: International Dispensing Corporation (IDC) has entered into a strategic alliance with Sealed Air to develop and promote a new ultra-high-speed aseptic filler for bag-in-box (BIB) products.
International Dispensing Corporation (IDC), a US-based food-and-beverage packaging company, has entered into a strategic alliance with Sealed Air to develop and promote a new ultra-high-speed aseptic filler for bag-in-box (BIB) products.

Designed and manufactured by Alfa Laval in Parma, Italy, the proprietary aseptic BIB filling equipment is designed to fill speeds of up to four to five times faster than standard aseptic BIB fillers.

The filler was installed at the Island Oasis low-acid manufacturing facility in Buffalo, New York in December 2012.

Inspired by IDC's aseptic tap, The Answer, the company has extended the reach of the new BIB machine beyond ready-to-drink beverages to products, including concentrates, coffee creamers and smoothie bases.

IDC founder and CEO Greg Abbott said, "The benefits that should accrue from a large-format aseptic package -- lower cost per fluid ounce, less packaging material, lower carbon footprint -- can now be realized on a mass scale for Sealed Air and IDC thanks to our ultra-high-speed system."

Sealed Air food & beverage business president Karl Deily said that this alliance with IDC is an opportunity to strengthen their commitment to the aseptic packaging market.

"Besides complementing our existing bag-in-box portfolio, it extends the value we bring to customers through greater operational efficiency," Deily added.
