The latest results from an annual product survey by a sustainable and organic food marketing company shows shoppers who prefer organic products, including seafood, are now demanding sustainable and traceable seafood.
The survey, conducted by Market Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS), found that consumers paid attention to eco-seafood labels and certificates, including guidelines by organizations such as the Monterey Bay Aquarium Sea Watch and the Marine Stewardship Council.
“Eco shoppers have moved beyond ingredient lists and are now focused on tracing the source of their food supply from Non-GMO to locally/regionally produced and Fair Trade,” said Karen Herther, co-founder of Market LOHAS. “Sustainable seafood is gaining interest due to third-party certification and heightened media coverage.”
