Authorities in China accused Coca-Cola Co. of illegally using the Global Positioning System to gather confidential information, the latest episode spotlighting the sensitivity surrounding data gathering in the country.
Authorities in China's southwestern Yunnan province said Coca-Cola employees used hand-held GPS devices to collect the information, according to a news article posted on a provincial-government website.
The article said Coca-Cola's was one of 21 similar cases against companies. The article was dated Feb. 28 but received coverage in recent days by Chinese media.
