P&S Van Berlo, an Ontario-based sweet potato grower, has teamed up with Chantler Packaging Inc. on Van Berlo's new packaging for their five-pound sweet potato product.
“High graphics and function retail packaging is becoming the norm for produce retailing across the country,” said Grant Ferguson, director of sales for Chantler. In keeping with that trend, Van Berlo's retail-ready five-pound package will feature eight-color flexographic printing. In keeping with the technological innovations that are rapidly becoming the norm, the new packaging will also feature QR codes which consumers can use to access healthy preparation tips with their smartphones.
That combination of eye-catching graphics and consumer engagement is a good way to drive sales, according to Ferguson.
“Process graphics, innovative package features along with recipe ideas on packaged produce items not only help to boost sales,” said Ferguson, “but provide a higher ring value for items which traditionally could be purchased piece by piece.”
