NSW Food Authority CEO Polly Bennett said a social media competition was a popular way to help people understand key food safety messages.
"A real highlight of our stand at the Sydney Royal this year is the Facebook Key Tips Pix competition," said Ms Bennett.
"We want people to come up with a creative or amusing image of one of our key food safety tips: Keep it cold, Keep it clean, Keep it hot and Check the label.
"The winner will be the person whose image best represents one of these tips. Their prize will be a Weber Q portable BBQ.
"I’m looking forward to seeing many new views and perspectives on the food safety message.

"The winner will be announced on the NSW Food Authority Facebook page on 23 May 2013."
Ms Bennett said following simple but effective food safety tips was important, especially when families come together to share special occasions such as Easter.
"Preparing, cooking and eating food together is a holiday tradition for many, and the NSW Food Authority wants you to do that as safely as possible," Ms Bennett said.
"As the only ‘through-chain’ food safety agency in Australia, the NSW Food Authority is uniquely placed to regulate food safety all the way from paddock, to plate.
"While most of us know we need to be careful, sometimes we can forget just what it is we need to do – often it’s as simple as washing your hands before you prepare food."
In keeping with the fun and festivity of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, the NSW Food Authority Easter Show stand features a "Big Food Show", where people can come by and learn about food safety in an entertaining and interactive way.
The "Big Food Show" stand will be operated by staff from the NSW Food Authority who will be on hand to provide expert advice on food safety, food labelling and many other food related topics.
The "Big Food Show" stand will be open daily during the Easter Show from 21 March - 3 April 2013.
