The Macallan Distillers, a Scotland-based single malt Scotch whiskey distillery and wholly owned subsidiary of the Edrington Group, has released three new malt whiskies under 1824 Series.
The three new whiskies, 10yo, 12yo and 15yo blends, are mainly known for their natural colors rather than their ages.
All the blends are aged in oak sherry casks. The new malts are Amber, Sienna and Ruby colored, reflecting the character of oak used for ageing.
The Macallan whiskey maker Bob Dalgarno said using color to define a whiskey allows them to explore different casks.
"We have been able to work creatively with the full range of matured stock available, rather than working to a pre-determined character based on age," Dalgarno added.
"For me, the key thought in this range is that a great single malt doesn't need to be 30 years old to taste like a 30-year-old."
The 1824 Series started with the launch of Gold in autumn 2012. While the Gold was sold at a recommended retail price of £36, the Amber, Sienna and Ruby are sold at the price of £45, £66 and £120, respectively.
The range is distributed by Maxxium UK, a Scotland-based wines and spirits distributor and part of sales and distribution alliance between Beam and The Edrington Group.
