Swiss multinational conglomerate Nestlé is set to commence the construction of a coffee processing plant in Cameroon with an investment of CFA Francs 20bn ($40.18m) in August 2013.
The coffee plant will have a capacity to grind 20,000 tons of coffee beans per year, which is equal to more than 50% of the total production in Cameroon.
Nestlé hopes that rising incomes and population in Africa will increase coffee consumption in the region in future.
The company initially intends to market the coffee processed at the plant locally with plans to expand into other regions.
Nestlé-Cameroun chief executive Bruno Olierhok was quoted by Reuters as saying: "Nestle wants to put affordable coffee within the reach of Cameroonian consumers and create jobs."
Cameroon grows both robusta and arabica coffee, most of which is currently exported to Europe for processing.
