China starts anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations of EU wines

Core Tip: The Ministry of Commerce spokesman Shen Danyang has issued a statement today that the Chinese government has started anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations of EU wine.
AEU wineccording to Chinese Commerce Department reports, Brussels local time June 4, the European Commission announced the preliminary anti-dumping investigation result of Chinese PV products, and decided to imposed 11.8% provisional anti-dumping duties on Chinese PV products from June 6 to August 6. The Ministry of Commerce spokesman Shen Danyang has issued a statement today that the Chinese government has started anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations of EU wines.

Shen Danyang stressed that China attaches great importance to China-EU strategic partnership. Economic and trade relations are an important foundation for China-EU relations, the Chinese do not hope the photovoltaic industry trade frictions affect the overall situation of China-EU relations. The Chinese have fully prepared, and hope the European Union can started negotiations with China on price guarantee as soon as possible.

As how to deal with the anti-dumping tax that EU imposed on Chinese PV companies, Shen Danyang said the Chinese government has started anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations of  EU wines.

In recent years, the number of wine imported from EU has skyrocketed in Chinese market. Data show that China imported 36 million liters of wine from the EU in 2008, and reached to 169 million liters in 2011, with an average annual growth of 67.71%. EU share of Chinese wine market has rapidly climbed from 4.94% in 2008 to 14.32% in 2011.

Earlier there was news reported that Chinese Wine Association has submitted wine anti-dumping application to the Ministry of Commerce, and the Commerce Department will conduct anti-dumping investigation of imported wines.
