CP Kelco announced plans to expand its Brazilian pectin operation by 30% to significantly increase the facility's capacity to produce grades of pectin with a sustainable new technology leveraging the local cost-effective raw material sources.
The company's Board of Directors approved the first phase in a series of projects in its expansion plan. Global demand for pectin continues to exceed regional GDP rates as consumers in all markets increasingly demand natural, safe and high-quality food ingredients. CP Kelco offers a broad portfolio of pectin grades including new patented forms which provide higher functionality in solids and pH, as well as the ability to create unique textures. "Because of the product's capability to create customized textures and due to pectin's natural association with fruit and fruit pulp, we've seen the application space broaden for GENU® pectin," said Susanne Sörgel, marketing director for the product line. The expansion will enable the company to keep pace with the growing popularity and demand for the ingredient.
Pectins are some of the most versatile hydrocolloids. They can function as thickeners, gelling agents and emulsifiers due to their wide range of characteristics.
