Diageo has unveiled limited edition bottles of Captain Morgan Sherry Oak Finish Spiced Rum to commemorate Captain Henry Morgan’s battle in the shores of Panama in 1671 and discovery of the remains of the 17th century fleet, including a hull of a ship, a sword and a barrel, in 2012.
The barrel recovered by Captain Morgan brand housed sherry. This led to the making of the brand's limited edition blend.
Diageo North America innovation director Jesse Damashek said the life and legacy of Henry Morgan serve as an integral source of inspiration for them as they continue to develop innovative product offerings and creative marketing campaigns.
"Every adventure, and especially every victory, is one worth celebrating responsibly, and we are proud to offer adult consumers Captain Morgan® Sherry Oak Finish Spiced Rum for a limited time," Damashek added.
The 35% ABV limited edition Captain Morgan Sherry Oak Finish Spiced Rum is aged and finished with Sherry Oak. It possesses smooth, subtly sweet taste of oak, sherry wine, vanilla, caramel, dark cherry and cocoa, with a slight floral undertone.
The limited edition blend is housed in a bottle designed with detailed, metallic label. When the liquid is poured from the bottle, the commemorative artwork and a synopsis of Morgan's 1671 battle are revealed behind the label.
The rum will be available nationally for a limited time at suggested retail price of $19.99 per 750ml bottle.
