State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today alerted consumers that Kings Highway Glatt Meats, Inc., located at 497 Kings Highway, Brooklyn, New York 11223 is recalling “Kings Highway Gourmet” brand Apricot Rolls because they contain undeclared sulfites. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. People who have severe sensitivity to sulfites run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product.
The recalled “Kings Highway Gourmet” brand Apricot Roll comes as a 13 oz, clear plastic wrapped roll with a yellow striped label. There is no apparent production code on the package. The UPC code is 891160002115. The product was manufactured by Kings Highway Glatt Meats, Inc. The product was sold in Brooklyn.
Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by Food Laboratory personnel revealed the presence of sulfites in packages of “Kings Highway Gourmet” brand Apricot Roll which did not declare sulfites on the label. The consumption of 10 milligrams of sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some asthmatics.
Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain sulfite sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 milligrams or more of sulfites.
