Chicago is more than hot dogs, deep-dish pizza and donuts. Barbecue seems to be the trend as of late and the inspiration for the first annual Windy City Smokeout July 12-14.
The Smokeout will offer the best in barbecue and will be hosted by Bub City, a barbecue joint opened in December by Chef Doug Psaltis, R.J., Jerrod and Molly Melman as well as mixologist Paul McGee who has crafted a cocktail menu. Those with an appetite for country music will leave doubly satisfied as the festival also features a lineup of top country music talent including Jerrod Niemann and Grammy-nominated artists David Nail and Pat Green.
The headlining barbecue master Chef Psaltis will team up with Chicago barbecue institutions Smoque and Lillie’s Q as well as Texas’s legendary Salt Lick and three-time BBQ World Champion and cookbook author Myron Mixon. The pitmasters will bring Southern-inspired barbecue and fixings to hungry guests with signature dishes including Bub City’s Texas-style black pepper beef ribs, The Salt Lick’s hot links with house-made coleslaw, and Mixon’s famous whole hog roast (Saturday and Sunday only).
Tickets to the Smokeout are now on sale through Bub City’s website and cost $30 for a one-day pass or $60 for a three-day pass.
