Yum! Restaurants India, a subsidiary of Yum! Brands, plans to further expand in the country by opening 500 new outlets in small towns by 2015.
Yum! operates or licenses Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut and WingStreet restaurants worldwide. The company presently opeartes 500 stores in 55 cities across India.
Of the proposed 500 new outlets, 50% would be KFC and the remaining would be a combination of Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
The chain intends to set up outlets in tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The company has recently opened its 500th outlet in Bangalore of its third brand Taco Bell.
Yum! Restaurants India president Niren Chaudhary wasquoted by The Economic Times citing PTI as saying that the model of opening stores in tier 2-3 towns works very well.
"In KFC, when we are going to particular smaller towns, we are seeing a disproportionate success in these tier 2-3 towns, where the sales very often are higher than the sales in the larger cities... rentals are much lower in smaller town," Chaudhary said.
Besides smaller town openings, the chain is also looking at metros, big cities and tier 2-3 towns for expansion.
US-based Yum! Brands has more than 39,000 restaurants in over 125 countries.
