Champagne Deutz, a French champagne house, has selected Gonzalez Byass UK to distribute its champagnes in the country from 1 August 2013.

Deutz champagnes were previously distributed by Berkmann Wine Cellars in the UK since 1998. Berkmann, however, will continue to distribute Delas Frères, the Rhône producer owned by Deutz, in the country.

Founded by William Deutz in 1838, Deutz produces cuvees like Deutz Brut Classic, Deutz Brut Rose, Deutz Brut Millesime, Cuvee William Deutz, Amour de Deutz, and others.

Champagne Deutz CEO Fabrice Rosset said both companies have dedicated the last 175 years to making benchmark quality for their respective regions.

"I sincerely believe that GBUK can take Deutz to the next level as far as awareness and market presence are concerned," Rosset added.

Gonzalez Byass UK managing director Martin Skelton said that selection of the company as the sole agent of Champagne Deutz is a testament to the reputation it has built up in a relatively short period as a distributor of premium wine brands.

"We hope to build on the good on-trade distribution achieved to date. Deutz has always been somewhat discreet about its achievements; our job will be to share these secrets with those who appreciate really fine Champagne," Skelton added.

Champagne Deutz joins Gonzalez Byass's brand portfolio that includes the Quinta do Noval, Jackson Estate, Wirra Wirra and Undurraga.
