A Scwhiskyottish whisky distillery has bagged funding from the Green Investment Bank to build a biomass boiler.

The Tomatin Distillery near Inverness was awarded £576,733 from the UK’s green lending body. This will be more than matched by private equity fund Equitix Energy Efficiency Fund (EEEF), which is putting £600,274 towards the project.

The boiler will be fuelled by sustainably sourced wood pellet fuel and CO2 emissions are expected to be cut by over 96,500 tonnes over the 20 years.

The site has been distilling whisky since the 15th century and whisky made at the distillery is used in a range of blends while its single malts are sold in more than 40 export markets.
