The biggest boom in Spanish stone fruit is now over. "The amounts have been 'normal' and the sales have been reasonable. Luckily the weather has been better over the last few weeks, which has improved the demand, but not hugely. We will have Spanish stone fruit for at least two or three more weeks," says Willem Koole of Frukar.
The importer says that the supply of French stone fruit is starting to get going now. "But that's around three weeks later than in previous years. We are receiving nice apricots every day now, and the first red and yellow plums have also arrived in our assortment. However, the local French demand is high at the moment, and the volumes are small this year, which means the prices could be on the high side."
In the area of top fruit, the first Guyot pears are available again. "The new harvest of apples will be in our assortment again in week 31 / 32," concludes Willem. "In general the market is calm, but it's the holiday period and Ramadan. It's a good thing it's very good weather. This is certainly benefiting sales!"
