Southern Wine & Spirits to buy Phoenix Wine & Spirits

Southern Wine & Spirits Pacific Northwest, a multi-state division of Southern Wine & Spirits of America, is set to purchase US-based Phoenix Wine & Spirits.

With this transaction, the combined entity, operating under the SWS-Utah name, will become the largest wine broker in the Utah.

The acquisition is expected to finish by the end of August 2013 and is subject to customary legal and regulatory review. The joint operations will start from September 2013.

Southern Wine & Spirits Pacific Northwest executive vice president and general manager John Klein said: "Phoenix is the oldest and largest wine brokerage company in Utah, and we are proud to merge their capabilities with ours as we capitalize on Phoenix' unparalleled institutional knowledge of the Utah wine business."

Phoenix chief executive officer and president Patrick Delaney said: "I look forward to leading the Phoenix Sales Division and partnering closely with Jeff Carter -- who oversees wine sales for Wyoming and Utah for Southern."

Southern Wine & Spirits wine division senior vice president and president Mel Dick said: "We are excited to join our capabilities -- under John, Jeff and Patrick's leadership -- leveraging the synergies between our two businesses as we take the enhanced SWS-UT wine business to the next level."
