Foley Family Wines founder Bill Foley has acquired stake in Epic Wines, a Capitola-based wholesaler that imports and distributes wines in California, for an undisclosed amount.
The transaction, which is expected to close on 1 September 2013, will allow Foley to control the distribution of wines.
Foley was quoted by The Press Democrat as saying that Epic will distribute about 150,000 cases of Foley's wines.
"I just felt like we needed ... more influence in where our wines are sold," Foley added.
"Now I can sell through a distributor that I'm a partner in."
Following the purchase of Epic Wines, Foley will also become a part-owner of Butterfield Station, a wine brand with sales of around 80,000 cases each year.
Young's Market, which already distributes Foley's wines in California, Hawaii, Alaska and other western states, will continue to serve for Foley.
Besides Foley wines, Epic Wines also distributes wines from Cecchetti Wine, Michel-Schlumberger and Schug Carneros Estate Winery, amongst others.
