A new booklet has been launched by the European Specialist Sports Nutrition Alliance (ESSNA) to help fight misinformation about sports nutrition products.
“What Is Sports Nutrition?” focuses on making a distinction between illegal substances and properly regulated sports nutrition products. The booklet details the ways in which regulations ensure legal products are safe to use and carry minimal risk.
The European Parliament recently voted in favour of adopting a regulation that ensured sports nutrition fell under general food law, and the Commission has pledged to produce a report on the new legal framework. The ESSNA is planning to engage fully with the report’s findings, and such initiatives as today’s announced booklet form part of this strategy to promote industry regulation.
Dr Adam Carey, chair of ESSNA, said: “The fact is that sports nutrition products are used regularly by members of the public, in addition to professional sportspeople, and can help considerably in improving training performance, hydration and recovery at whatever level of participation.”
“Our industry is a very vigilant one, and we work extremely hard to ensure that every company in our sector adheres to the very strict regulations in place to govern the content of products.”
The booklet is available to download from the ESSNA website today.
