German retailer Edeka's revamped 3000 sq. m Hohenasperg store will officially reopen on 17 September, after a €4.5 million investment.

The new store features a new health department, a revamped tea offering and 'generous serving counters for meat, sausage, cheese and fish, where customers are individually and competently advised', according to Edeka.

The store also features a cafe at the front of the store and freezer cabinets next to the tills so that products do not thaw whilst the customer is shopping.

In terms of services, the revamped Edeka Market offers a gift basket and wrapping service, allowing customers to buy cuts of meat and cheese as gifts. The retailer also offers a free taxi calling service, 130 parking spaces, a post box, a free TV guide and a lottery outlet. Three Edeka employees answer questions about nutrition.

The range offered in the Edeka Market has been expanded and now comprises some 25,000 items. According to Edeka, 'Great emphasis is placed in Edeka Hohenasperg on regional products. These include products from canned sausage company Dietz, flour-mill products from the Siegle in Ditzingen juices Kumpf and Stuttgart beers'.

The retailer has also managed to reduce the energy consumption of the store, with a heat recovery system, LED lighting technology and a C02-friendly refrigeration system.
