Novozymes has announced that it has topped the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for the 12th time, scoring 86 out of 100. The company, operating within the DJSI Biotechnology Industry category, claims the success is due to its sustainability board.
The board has pushed for company involvement in projects like the UN-backed Sustainable Energy for All programme and supplier evaluation programmes. Mads Bodenhoff, Vice President Corporate Finance at Novozymes, said: "It is important to Novozymes that our sustainability activities are clearly linked to our core business and that sustainability is used both to support our current business practices and to inspire development of new business opportunities."
The board is made up of vice presidents throughout the company and is responsible for the development of the company sustainability strategy, as well as targets combining the functional business strategies with stakeholder insights.
The Dow Jones Sustainability Index is a ranking system, with results published annually. The results are based on a number of factors, including corporate governance and environmental management.
