The Telethon Institute for Child Health Research (TICHR) conducted an experiment on 502 men and found energy drinks cause anxiety, Australia’s daily, Daily Telegraph reported on Sept. 20.
The research found drinking even 250 milliliters of energy drinks will trigger anxiety in young men, and the more consumed, the higher the effects of anxiety.
Though it is not certain what causes the harmful aftereffects of energy drinks, researchers suspect caffeine to be the cause.
“Results show energy drinks were found to be the root of anxiety in young males,” said the study’s lead author Dr. Georgina Trapp.
The institute found energy drinks had no effects of anxiety on females, though the reasons as to why remained unclear.
