Yashili New Zealand Dairy, a wholly owned subsidiary of China-based Yashili International, is set to commence construction work on its new infant formula plant in Pokeno, 50km south of Auckland.

During the construction phase which will begin in a month, the proposed plant is expected to create around 350 jobs and 120 jobs, when completed.

This facility is expected to manufacture around 52,000 tons of finished infant formula product annually, stuff.co.nz reported.

Yashili operations manager Terry Norwood was quoted by the site as saying that with the appeal period against the company's resource consent having passed without challenge, workers can move onto the Gateway Business Park site.

Earlier in August 2013, the company has secured a consent for the construction of this $220m infant formula facility.
