ompany Vion is set to make a multi-million euro investment in its meat processing plants in Bavaria, Germany.As part of its investment, the company will expand its operations at Waldkraiburg, Landshut and Vilshofen.
Of the total investment being made, around half of the investments will be used in the expansion of the slaughter- and cutting plant in Landshut, Bavaria.
Upon completion of the project in 2015, the Landshut plant will have processing capacity almost double to 21,000 pigs per week.
Vion's Vilshofen pork plant will see the installation of advanced equipment that will optimize processing efficiencies, as part of the investment.
In addition, the company will invest in the Waldkraiburg plant, which will become the largest beef plant within Vion, with capacity increasing from 3,000 to 4,500 cattle per week.
As a result of this move, the company might halt operations at Straubing and Pfarrkirchen plants.
Vion will also close the beef processing plant at Leutkirch, with cattle being re-directed to the Buchloe and Crailsheim operations.
The company offers chicken, pork, beef, lamb, and various convenience food products to the retail, industrial, and food service sectors.
