Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), a national milk marketing cooperative, is set to merge with Dairylea Cooperative, in a move to expand its presence across the northeast.
Dairylea Cooperative, an agricultural marketing and service company, markets milk for dairy farm families living in the Northeast US. The company manages the sale and distribution of raw milk for organizations, including dairy farms.
The merger, which is awaiting approval from Dairylea shareholders, is expected to provide Dairylea members access to other parts of the country and growing international markets as well as a share of DFA's profits.
DFA claims that the financial terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.
Dairylea CEO Greg Wickham said that today's dairy industry is undergoing unprecedented change.
"From consolidation in the marketplace and changing farm demographics to a movement toward a global dairy industry, this change presents both challenges and opportunities," added Wickham.
