Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) and Craigs Station Ventures have partnered to construct a new $12m cold milk separation facility in York, New York.

The proposed cold milk separation facility will be spread over an area of about 14,000ft² and is expected to process approximately one million pounds of milk everyday, with a potential to increase to two million pounds.

The plant will be connected to an anaerobic digester that will convert manure into renewable energy for the facility. It will employ 11 full-time staff, the company said.

DFA president and chief executive officer Rick Smith said that partnering with farmers allows the dairy company and its partners to use combined capital to develop sound projects that will deliver value to all DFA members.

Empire State Development, New York's chief economic development agency, president, chief executive officer and commissioner Kenneth Adams said, "This innovative facility will help local dairy farmers meet growing milk demand while creating new jobs.

"Agribusiness is an important sector of the Upstate New York economy and with this dairy processing facility coming online soon, we'll be well positioned to access new markets," concluded Adams.

Construction of the cold milk separation facility is expected to be completed in summer 2014.
