DQS has certified Symrise as a “Green Company.” Independent DQS auditors have assessed the internal processes in research, development, manufacturing and sales. The result: Symrise fulfills the international requirements of the Global Conformance Program. They are detailed in the GC guidelines for environmental management.
As defined by DQS, a leading certifier of company processes, a “Green Company” is a company that sets itself apart from its competitors in terms of products, services and environmental standards by minimizing its impact on the environment. Symrise has successfully passed the audit. It now holds the GC certification mark for a year.
The auditors reviewed the Symrise business divisions in detail. Production, sales, research and development all demonstrated environmentally conscious operations. Symrise therefore fulfills the international requirements of the Global Conformance Program. They are detailed in the GC guidelines for environmental management.
Symrise sets high standards for itself and fulfills them. DQS took this into account in awarding the GC certification mark. These include relevant standards addressing human rights, quality, health and safety as well as guidelines regarding energy, environmental protection, food and production safety on all levels. Symrise regularly analyzes the results and adjusts them when necessary.
A guiding principle promotes efficiency with these standards – particularly when it comes to the environment. In this way, Symrise aims to reduce the effects of its business activities on the environment per product unit sold by a third by 2020 compared to 2010 levels. This includes purchasing of electricity from local markets and increased energy efficiency across all processes.
Another benefit for the environment: Symrise continually optimizes and monitors the productivity of its production processes. It has therefore established an integrated management system (IMS). At the same time, Symrise is operating and developing strategies devoted to the local, sustainable procurement of raw materials. The percentage of raw materials acquired from renewable sources is steadily increasing.
“With the ‘Green Company’ GC Mark, Symrise demonstrates how firmly sustainability is established within the company,” explains Dr. Heinz-Jürgen Bertram, CEO of Symrise. “Employees, customers and suppliers are working together to shape and improve sustainable processes. In doing so they are playing a key role in adding value. The seal is based on established standards and transparent, comprehensible criteria. We are thus boosting our position as a reliable business partner.”
“Having received the 2012 German Sustainability Award, Symrise is a forerunner in the area of sustainability. The ‘Green Company’ GC mark demonstrates that Symrise is taking its function as role model seriously. The seal signifies that the company has voluntarily had its products and services certified,” adds Behzad Sadegh, Head of Innovation and Sustainability at DQS-UL CFS. “That promotes trust among customers and employees as well as consumers and investors.”
