A company spokesman for German supermarket chain Tegut announced plans to expand beyond their present area in early 2015. It is expected that the first new branch will open in Stuttgart. At the beginning of this year Tegut was officially taken over by Swiss trading giant Migros.
Until now, the chain had only opened branches within a 150 kilometres radius of their headquarters in Fulda, in Hessen. Tegut now wants to spread to the south. "Stuttgart is the first test to see what reaction there is by customers outside of our normal operating area," said a company spokesman.
Tegut presently has 280 branches in Hessen, Bavaria, Saxony, Rhineland and Thuringia. In 2012 the company achieved a turnover of 1.16 billion Euros.
