A consumer research group said Thursday people concerned about high calories had better avoid eating products of Burger King because they have the most calories among four major fast food franchises.
According to Consumer Research, the average calorific value of nine Burger King combinations was the highest at 1,107.8 kcal among 44 products from four ― Burger King, KFC, McDonald’s and Lotteria.
KFC came second with the average calories of its eight burger combos marking 981.8 kcal, followed by McDonald’s with 867.6 kcal and Lotteria with 867.5 kcal.
By product, Burger King’s Double Whopper topped the list with 1,437 kcal, followed by the Tower Burger from KFC with 1,233 kcal and Burger King’s Cheese Whopper with 1,219 kcal.
“The calories in a Double Whopper are equivalent to those in three-and-half bowls of rice. And calories in six Burger King products exceed 1,000 kcal each,” said the consumer research center in a statement.
Choi Hyun-sook, head of Consumer Research, said that weight conscious consumers need to avoid combination meals because they contain twice as many calories as single burger ones.
“Many people choose combos, which come with coke and French fries along with burgers, to save money. But, then, you may eat double the number of calories compared to single burgers. You need to find out how many calories burgers have before you order.”
She also advised consumers to avoid products named “double” because they are made of thick patties and cheese which further increases the number of calories.
