The Ministry of Agriculture approved, Sunday evening, the importing of cucumbers from Jordan without customs, in order to avoid a shortage and jump in prices in the wake of damage to Israeli crops to the latest winter storm. Approval for the importing of tomatoes and zucchini are expected in the next few days, subject to developments.
The ministry's chief executive officer, Rami Cohen said the efforts to maintain supply and control prices will bear in mind the need to protect local growers. The ministry will continue to coordinate its efforts with farmer organizations through the fund for natural disasters, its executive arm for dealing with problems that have developed.
