In what can already be considered an early season trend, the significant decline in export volumes of blueberries and cherries, mainly because of the effects of the frosts in September, has been confirmed.

So far this year, 32% less tonnes of cherries and 31% less tonnes of blueberries have been exported than over the same period last year.

The five-kilo box of Chilean Bing cherries was sold during week 49 at the airports of Miami and New York at a range between $42-50, a price slightly higher than in the same week of 2012 when it was sold at prices between 40 and 48 dollars.

Meanwhile, in early December, the 3.7-kilo box of blueberries was being sold at $44 in Boston's Wholesale Market, and the 1.5-kilo box was being sold at $30 in New York's wholesale Market.

By contrast, avocado exports have increased by 37% compared to the 2012-2013 season.
