A brand new brewery, which combines tradition and innovation, is set to open in the Hammarby Sjöstad area of Stockholm, in the spring of 2014.
The New Carnegie Brewery is a joint venture between Carlsberg Sweden and Brooklyn Brewery from the United States.
Brewing high quality craft beers on a small scale, the head brewers will use Swedish nature as inspiration. The brewery will brew both classic and modern beers, and according to plant manager, Fredrik Vogel, the brewery will be a hub for anyone who wants to know more about beer.
“The New Carnegie Brewery will not only be a brewery and beer temple that combines innovations, tradition and quality, but it will also be a beer school and restaurant,” says Fredrik Vogel.
Carlsberg Sweden has been importing Brooklyn beers since 2006, and since then, the popularity of the trans-Atlantic beer has flourished. In fact, Sweden is now the biggest market for Brooklyn lager outside of New York City.
In a video from BBC News Magazine “Why does Stockholm love Brooklyn”, Henric Byström, head of Communications in Carlsberg Sweden tells about the new brewery and its connection to Brooklyn.
The brewery is expected to open its doors to the public in the spring of 2014, and it is expected that up to 40,000 people will visit every year.
“Everything is going according to plan, although there have, of course, been some unexpected challenges. We are committed to making sure this new facility brews the very best beer,” says plant manager Fredrik Vogel.
New Carnegie Brewery will brew approximately 3000 HL of beer in the first year, but will have the capacity to brew over one million litres of beer per year.
