Rochester, N.Y.-based Wegmans Food Markets again made the Fortune magazine Top 100 Companies to Work For list, along with Nugget Market, Whole Foods Market Inc., and Publix Super Markets.
After placing in the top 5 since 2006, Wegmans dropped to No. 12 on the list this year. Woodland, Calif.-based Nugget Market rose one spot to No. 37 this year, and Austin, Texas-based Whole Foods Market Inc. rose from No. 71 last year to No. 44 this year.
Lakeland, Fla.-based Publix was No. 75 on the list, up from No. 77 last year.
Honorees are chosen through employee surveys with the Great Place to Work Institute. A total of 257 firms and 252,000 employees were surveyed this year, according to Fortune Magazine. Two thirds of the score is based on the institute’s “Trust Index” survey, related to employee attitudes on “management’s credibility, job satisfaction and camaraderie.”
The remaining third is based on a “Culture Audit,” including questions about pay, benefit programs, hiring practices, internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.
