Roquette America and World Food Processing have signed an exclusive supply agreement to meet the fast growing North American consumer and customer demand for pea protein. Roquette America, part of the Roquette Group, is well recognized in the US as a leader in innovative nutritional ingredients.

“Our partnership with World Food Processing allows Roquette America to give the US market a local supply of pea protein isolates,” said Dominique Taret, CEO of Roquette America. “We have seen a dramatic increase in consumer demand for our pea proteins due to their benefits, including cleaner labeling, elimination of common allergens, and high digestibility.”

World Food Processing has unmatched capabilities and advanced technologies that result in ingredients that are pure, secure, and fully traceable. “Food traceability is a growing concern of consumers. Our non-GMO and Organic closed-loop, vertically integrated model allows us complete control from seed to plate,” said Jerry Lorenzen, CEO of World Food Processing.

“Our partnership with Roquette increases the availability of pea protein for world-leading food companies and offers, to consumers, access to a high-quality plant-based protein backed by innovation and complete transparency.” This partnership reinforces Roquette’s position as world leader in the pea protein market with its brand name Nutralys.

Pea protein ingredients offer formulation and nutrition benefits in several applications, including baked goods, snacks, cereals, dairy foods, desserts, confections, savory foods, health and nutritional products, and pet foods. The partnership is supported not only by Roquette’s manufacturing expertise, but also by a fully dedicated support infrastructure, including quality assurance and control, food safety, and global product development facilities, including the Customer Innovation Center in Geneva, IL, which offers extensive formulation knowledge and partnership in applications development.

“With the increase of our pea protein offerings, our partners at all stages of the product development process can rely on our seasoned sales force and commercialization group to guide them in the development of applications” said Fernando Arias, Commercial Vice President of Roquette America.

Pea protein is a food additive extracted from the yellow pea. It has a neutral taste and it is used in dairy alternatives such as cheeses, as well as baked goods, snack bars, drinks and cereals that aim to be protein-rich, while also appealing to people looking for vegan, gluten-free or soy-free products. Pea protein is also considered to be a good source of amino acids.

Pea protein comprise of peas that have been processed to remove the carbohydrate, leaving just the protein element of the pea. Food manufacturers have been looking at this ingredient with more interest in recent years, in order to capitalize on the rising consumer demand for more protein-rich products.

Roquette, which dates back to 1933, is a global producer of starch and starch derivatives. It is also an expert in polyols, and one of the leading European producers of pyrogen-free raw materials and cationic starches. The company transforms renewable resources such as corn, wheat, potatoes and peas into an extensive line of high quality ingredients for a wide range of food and non-food industries, around the world.
