Nestlé Waters Canada announced that its bottling facilities have achieved Excellence in Manufacturing standing from the Canadian Bottled Water Association (CBWA).

As a condition of CBWA membership, the Company must pass an annual, un-announced plant inspection administered by an independent, internationally recognized organization. This inspection audits quality and testing records, reviews all areas of plant operation from source through finished product and checks adherence to the CBWA Model Code and its code of ethics. The CBWA code of ethics adheres to a philosophy of sustainable development, environmental protection and collaboration with local communities in the management of the water resource.

A second condition of membership is that bottlers pass an annual water analysis administered by an independent government-certified laboratory and regularly conduct microbial testing by qualified personnel.

The CBWA Model Code is a quality assurance program with more extensive requirements than federal and provincial authorities demand. Beyond federal and provincial regulations and regular annual inspections, CBWA bottlers like Nestlé Waters Canada are subject to a third level of regulation involving independent inspections, water testing and analysis, and adherence to the CBWA Model Code.

“This achievement confirms each and every one of our employees’ ability to perform their jobs and produce bottled water at high quality level,” says Greg Chorpitta, plant manager, Guelph, Nestlé Waters Canada. “In 2013, we continued with our Nestlé Continuous Excellence journey by re-gating in the areas of safety, quality, leadership development, goal alignment and engineering compliance, followed by our launch into Total Performance Management. These initiatives are accruing benefits for our organization in many key areas, including our CBWA excellence in manufacturing standing.”

“It is important to note that there was no advance notice of the CBWA inspection,” explains Kevin Thorburn, plant manager, Hope, Nestle Waters Canada. “NSF International, which carried out the inspection on behalf of CBWA, audited our operations in Hope during a typical day in our manufacturing facilities. We are very pleased with the results of this review – a perfect score. Each and every one of our employees should be extremely proud of this achievement.”

“On behalf of CBWA, I want to congratulate the Nestlé Waters Canada team on achieving this very high manufacturing standard at both of its bottling plants in Canada,” says Elizabeth Griswold, executive director, CBWA. “Our members produce the highest quality bottled water in the world and Nestlé Waters Canada typifies the quality consumers can expect when they purchase bottled water produced in Canada.”
