SurePure, a global leader in liquid photopurification, today announced that it has sold its unique processing technology to Soda King, a leading South African beverage producer.
SurePure's announcement follows its sale on February 2014 of its patented photopurification technology to a French flavor house.
Soda King has bought the technology to help preserve its flavors for its product range, including its 100% Fruit Juices distributed in Africa under the "JOOZ" brand, its non-alcoholic malt drinks sold under the "Soraya Apple Malt" label, an apple-flavored carbonated malt drink, and a dark, milk stout-like strong malt drink sold under the "King Malta" label. What was instrumental in Soda King's decision to utilize SurePure's technology is the relative ease with which Soda King is able to substitute SurePure's technology for either preservatives or thermal treatment. Through its franchising system, Soda King is also using SurePure's technology in other African countries for the same benefits, including the ability to supply fruit juices in un-refrigerated state with a shelf life of up to 4 months. Soda King's franchised operations on the continent include Zambia, Somalia, Senegal, Madagascar, Tanzania and are expected soon to include Kenya, Sudan, Namibia, Eritrea, Nigeria, Ghana and Ethiopia as well.
According to a SurePure spokesman, "SurePure's purification process is gaining traction in the flavor world. The benefits of microbiological cleanliness, enhanced shelf-life and color preservation without the downsides of sensorial degradation are underscored by low operational costs and sparing energy usage. We believe that the ability to produce consumer food products and beverages without preservatives will increasingly weigh in favor of the adoption of SurePure's technology."
