Core Tip: Australian pie restaurant Pie Face has added a new ‘low gluten’ pie to its range.
Australian pie rePie Facestaurant Pie Face has added a new ‘low gluten’ pie to its range.

The pie, which Pie Face said contains “only gluten-free ingredients”, is a chunky steak flavour with chunks of beef, braised onions, garlic and gravy, encased in the new ‘low gluten’ pastry.

“From listening to our customers, we knew there was an opportunity to make this pie a reality,” said Kim Carlon, Pie Face Senior Marketing Manager. “We are delighted that we can finally announce it,” she said.

Pie Face said it has used the label ‘low gluten’ because of the strict labelling laws in Australia for gluten-free products. Pie Face produces other products that contain gluten so the potential for exposure means the pie must be labelled as ‘low gluten’.

Pie Face said 2014 will be a “big year” for the release of new and innovative products. It said more work was being done to expand the ‘low gluten’ range beyond the pie. The ‘low gluten’ pie, which followed the summer release of its sweet mini pies, is available in stores nationally for $7.95.

Pie Face launched in Sydney in 2003 and now has 84 stores across Australia, the US and New Zealand, and says it has plans for entry into the Middle East and additional international markets over the next 12 to 24 months.
