Eurial, the cheese manufacturer based in Nantes France, has signed a memorandum of agreement signifying its intent to merge with fellow French dairy co-operative Valcrest.
Agricole.net say that the merger will be subject to the approval of the two company's work councils and general assemblies.
"Through this merger plan, Eurial and Valcrest can re-inforce their position in added value goat's cheeses as well as regional specialty cheeses made from cow's milk," a statement jointly issued by both companies read.
Involving nearly 2,500 dairy farms in west France, Eurial employs about 1,900 people and recorded a turnover of €900 million last year. Valcrest, which operates cheese brands like Saint-Marcelin, the Saint-Félicien and Picodon, currently has 214 employees and €50 million worth of turnover.
