Austrian manufacturer of plastic products Borealis and Singapore-based Borouge have introduced new BorPure MB5568 grade to their BorPure high density polyethylene range of caps and closures.
Developed using Borstar polyethylene (PE) technology, BorPure MB5568 has been designed to complement the lightweight, standard short-neck closures for carbonated soft drinks, juices, teas and bottled water.
The Borstar technology will allow the tailoring of PE mechanical and processing properties to meet specific application needs without compromising on the performance, using less material.
BorPure MB5568 grade features stiffness and environmental stress crack resistance that enables additional cap and closure downgauging with consequent material and production cost savings, claims Borealis.
Similar to other BorPure grades, the new grade also offers organoleptic properties and has no taste or odor influence on bottle contents.
Borealis Advanced Packaging and Fibre marketing manager Russell Tew said the new grade has been designed to reduce volume of material used in caps and also to reduce cost in bottle production in beverage sector.
"BorPure MB5568 has been developed jointly by Borealis and Borouge to positively aid that objective by allowing converters and brand owners globally to further reduce the amount of plastic, which is contributing further to the cost-reduction initiatives taking place in the beverage industry," added Tew.
Borealis had already launched the grade in Europe in early 2014, while Borogue will launch it in Asia in April.
