Crown Holdings receives EU approval for Mivisa acquisition

Crown Holdings, Philadelphia-based manufacturer of consumer packaging products, has been given approval by the European Commission for its acquisition of Mivisa Envases, Spanish manufacturer of two- and three-piece food cans and ends.

The Commission previously granted approval of the acquisition subject to certain conditions and commitments, which have now been satisfied.

The transaction is expected to close on April 23, 2014.

Based in Murcia, Spain, Mivisa is one of the largest food can producers in both the Iberian Peninsula and Morocco, primarily serving the vegetable, fruit, fish and meat segments.

Crown Holdings operates 147 plants across 40 countries, employing over 21,000 people.
