Sazerac, a US-based spirits group, is planning to invest around $71m in the expansion of three Kentucky distilleries, in a move to cater to the increasing demand for Kentucky bourbon and other spirits.
The proposed expansions at Buffalo Trace Distillery, Glenmore Distillery and Barton Distillery will increase bottling, distribution and barrel-storage capacity, in addition to creating 110 new jobs.
Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear said, "Bourbon remains a signature industry in Kentucky, and these expansions will continue to grow this legacy. I want to congratulate Sazerac on its investment and the addition of more than 100 new jobs throughout the commonwealth."
The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority has approved $7.4m in tax incentives for the projects.
As part of the expansion, Buffalo Trace will see the addition of a new 83,000ft² warehouse with an automated storage and retrieval system from Westfalia Technologies, which tracks pallets in multiple deep-storage lanes by using satellite technology.
The company will add a 223,000ft² distribution center with an automated storage and retrieval system at Glenmore Distillery, while improving existing barrel warehouses.
The production capacity at the Barton distillery will be increased by installing new equipment.
Sazerac offers bourbons, shooters, cordials, liqueurs and specialties, blended whiskeys, rye whiskeys, wines, vodka, gin, tequila, rums, brandies and cognacs, scotches, Irish and welsh whiskies, and cocktails.
