According to the Ministry of Economy of Bolivia, the value of supermarket sales increased by 342% in the past eight years, from 99 million dollars in 2006 to 438 million in 2013.
Analysts believe that this growth has been due to the increase in the citizens' purchasing power as well as in the demand for goods and services.
They also stated that the increase in supermarket sales could also be due to the increase in food markets in the cities, the demand for this type of trade, the growth of the economy, and the increase in jobs and the people having a higher solvency.
