French retailer Auchan has announced plans to sell the high-quality Italian food brand, Eataly, in its Italian stores.
The chain of Italian food has entered into an agreement with Auchan, one of Europe's biggest supermarkets, to allow it to sell Eataly's locally-produced products in its supermarkets in Italy.
The agreement enables 50 of Auchan's Italian stores to sell a selection of products from Eataly, including pasta, sauces, olive oil and wine.
Oscar Farinetti, founder and CEO of Eataly, and Christian Iperti, general manager of Auchan Italy, made the announcement at a conference held at the Congress Centre of Eataly Rome.
The conference theme was titled "Distribution as storytelling too - Made in Italy and Italians abroad".
Italian food quality needs to be narrated, explained Farinetti, and it is up to Eataly, as much as the small and larger retailers, to talk about it and promote it.
Iperti pointed out that Auchan Italy was committed to the promotion of 'Made in Italy', in cooperation with the small and medium-sized Italian companies they represent.
With 30% of the suppliers in the chain, a total of around 750 Italian products are exported to 13 countries where Auchan is present, he added.
The event was also attended by Marco Pedroni, president of Coop Italy, and Carlo Petrini, president of Slow Food Italy.
